Bio
Esther Van Parys is a PhD researcher at the Department of Agricultural Economics. She holds a MSc. in Bioscience Engineering Technology with a focus on Food Industry from Ghent. Her research focusses on the effects of implementing innovations in shorter food supply chains, taking into account stakeholder perspectives, consumer preferences and willingness to pay and the sustainability effects on the value chain and food system.
Research
Esther is interested in the dynamics of sustainability in agri-food value chains and stakeholder and consumer perceptions, with a focus on innovations in shorter food chains.
She is involved in two European projects:
In the H2020 FAIRCHAIN project she uses her expertise to develop user-friendly sustainability assessment for implementing innovations in intermediate value chain contexts, frameworks for policy recommendations and collects consumer perspectives on sustainability and packaging materials.
In the MSCA-SE project FoodMAPP she assesses the role of digital platforms in local food provisioning both through the perspectives of stakeholders and consumer.
