Francesca holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering, obtained in Rome, Italy, where she was born and raised. After completing her Bachelor, she moved to Sweden to continue her studies with a Master in Industrial Ecology. She joined the Agricultural Economics Department in UGent in February 2020 to start her PhD, and fell in love with Gent. Her research is focused on the sustainability of current European bioeconomy strategies and, in particular, on the financial sustainability of biorefinery systems in on-farm settings. Parallelly to her interest in agricultural and food systems, she reads a lot about degrowth and ecofeminism, and works as a volunteer for Catapa, a no-profit organization based in Gent, active on projects related to the environmental and social impacts of mining and extractivism.
