Bio
Charl is a professionally trained and licensed landscape architect from the Philippines. His expertise intersects in the domains in landscape architecture, remote sensing, Indigenous studies, and invasion biology. After teaching for three years in the Philippines, Charl joined the Universidad de Cordoba and Progetto LIFE Fagesos, and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations as an intern. These experiences exposed Charl to the challenges in the agri-food system, inspiring him to specialise in digital agriculture with a particular focus on gamified and virtual environment systems and solutions.
Research
Charl’s current research direction navigates virtual and augmented reality, serious games, and LLM for farm advisory and market research applied in agri-food contexts (e.g., wine, novel foods, breeding breakthroughs for underutilized crops). He hopes to assist the Agri-food marketing and chain management lab by developing digital methodologies across diverse value chain actors through collaboration among other PhD students and partner organizations and laboratories. In the future, Charl envisions his PhD as a collection of multidisciplinary empirical case studies focused on various digital methodologies (e.g., virtual reality, augmented reality, digital games, AI, mobile apps, short film) across value chain stakeholders.
