Bio

Sun Yufan grew up in a traditional village in Zhejiang, in the Jiangnan region of eastern China, historically known for its prosperity and refined cultural traditions. He commenced his PhD at the Department of Agricultural Economics as an FWO Strategic Basic Research Fellow in 2025. He holds a Bachelor of Agricultural Sciences (in Landscape Gardening) and a Bachelor of History from Zhejiang University, China, and a Master of Science (in Rural Development) from Ghent University, Belgium.

Research

His research focuses on developing a positive multi-objective optimisation approach for agricultural sector modelling. This methodology can be regarded as both a multi-objective extension of positive mathematical programming and an empirical adaptation of multi-objective optimisation. The approach is intended to improve the economic interpretability and numerical accuracy of calibration in traditional mathematical programming models. He also couples mathematical programming models with agronomic models for integrated agricultural systems modelling and assessment.
