Bio

Sergio Garmendia Lemus is a Mexican PhD student at the Department of Agricultural Economics since January 2020. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering from Mexico and a Master of Science in Energy and Environmental Sciences from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands.

Research

Sergio currently works on the development of financial models for the circular bioeconomy for REFLOW ETN, whose global objective is the recovery of phosphorus from dairy processing wastewater and its recycling into fertilizer products enabling sustainable expansion of the dairy industry in Europe. His PhD is a collaboration between Ghent University and the European Landowners Organization (ELO). The specific goals for this research are to develop models for nutrient management strategies, as well as the exploration of needs and requirements across the stakeholder chain to define business models that will sustainably distribute value. His research serves as a base for decisions towards market acceptability and financial configurations that will give certainty to potential investors in the fertilizer industry across Europe.
