Bio

Joshua Wesana holds a PhD in Food Science and Nutrition from Ghent University, Belgium. PhD research focused on nutrition sensitive approaches and specifically took on a stakeholder-based view of utilizing agri-food value chains for nutrition benefits, with a focus on quantitative assessment and reduction of food and nutritional losses. He has worked on a range of African based projects including as a program manager for a long-term institutional collaboration between Ghent University (Belgium) and Mountains of the Moon University (Uganda), overseeing two projects aiming to strengthen livelihoods, food security and nutrition of actors in fish and dairy sectors. Other projects include cereal & legume Post Harvest losses at farm level, agronomic iodine biofortification, insects-based complementary foods, fish farmer business skilling and aquaculture education development. He also works as a Senior Fellow in Fish and Food Systems (Nutritional Outcomes) at Natural Resources Institute, University of Greenwich, UK, where he has been attached to the CGIAR Research Program FISH - Fish in Regional Food Systems with WorldFish. He does work that focuses on consumer behaviour, post-harvest losses, fish meal and fish oil as well as the interaction between fish research, policies and programs.
